This exclusive Whale & Safari Package from Cape Town combines an ocean adventure and a private bush escape. It includes a guided whale-watching boat excursion starting from Yzerfontein, where super groups of Humpback Whales gather in summer. You will spend the nights at Rooikat’s Safari Accommodation on the West Coast Private Game Reserve, only 10 minutes from Yzerfontein. The package includes a private safari on the game reserve with a chance to spot giraffe, buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, eland and more. Just 1hr from Cape Town, this unique experience offers the rare chance to witness both marine and land wildlife in a single trip — a true showcase of the Cape’s natural wonders.

Whales & Safari Program

Day 1 - Arrive & Chill

Arrive anytime after 3pm, have a braai, soak in the hot tub, and watch the stars around the camp fire

Day 2 - Whale Excursion

Leave early towards the Yzerfontein Harbour, where you will meet the Whale Excursion team. After a light breakfast and a safety briefing you will head out in search of Whales and other marine wildlife. After the experience lunch is enjoyed with your fellow adventures, before returning to your house for an afternoon at leisure.

Day 3 - Game Drive

You may have seen wildlife already from your house, but today you will head out for a morning or afternoon game drive with your private guide and vehicle to discover all that the West Coast private Game reserve has to offer. The reserve is home to giraffe, buffalo, zebra, eland, wildebeest, red hartebeest, springbok, waterbuck, ostrich, steenbok & duiker.

Day 4 - Departure

Day 4 is your departure day, but also allows for any additional activities you would like to add. Consider a visit to the !Khwa Ttu Heritage Centre, or go for a horse ride on the reserve or the beach.

NOTE: Whale Excursions are weather dependant, and program might be shuffled around to allow for bad weather days.

What's included in the Package?

The Whales and Safari Package is action packed, but all activities are close by, so sufficient time remains to enjoy your private house on the West Coast Private Game Reserve.

Yzerfontein is a stone-throw away, with its beaches and restaurants allowing for maximum flexibility during your stay.

Half Day Whale Watching Experience

The Package includes a 4-6 hour whale watching experience starting from the Yzerfonetin Harbour only 10 minutes from your accommodation. The experience includes a light breakfast and lunch.

3 Hour Safari (Private Vehicle)

Your Package includes one Game Drive on exclusive basis, you will have the Guide and Safari vehicle all to yourself.

3 nights Private Safari House

The Package includes 3 nights at “the Salt Mine” on the West Coast Private Game reserve. Accommodation is on self catering basis.

PRIVATE HOUSE IN THE WILD

The Salt Mine by the Rooikat Safari Collection offers two private houses in the centre of the West Coast Private Game Reserve. Each house has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms with bathtubs and showers.

The houses are self catering and come with fully equipped Kitchens, a braai area on the deck, a camp-fire circle and a private wood fire hot-tub.

Seasons & Weather

This package is primarily operated in summer, when the supergroups of (humpback) whales are around (Nov-April). In winter we offer a land and sea safari, but whale sightings are less frequent. Your whale excursion is weather dependant. The day of your whale trip may be adjusted to weather conditions. In case of persistent bad weather cancelling the whale trip you will be refunded in full for the whale component of the trip.

Transport, Food & Drinks

This package is based on guests having their own transport during their stay. Accommodation is based on self catering basis (full kitchen and braai facilities available). Breakfast & Lunch are included on whale watching day only
